Common Core

Benicia Unified School District is committed to the implementation of the Common Core State Standards. The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) were developed through a state-led national initiative to establish consistent and clear education standards for English Language Arts and Mathematics that would better prepare American students for success in college, career, and the competitive global economy. The CCSS specify K-12 expectations for college and career readiness. The state has allocated funding to support the implementation identifying three areas of focus: Instructional Materials, Professional Development and Technology.

Secondary

Secondary Intervention/ Student Support
BMS–Student Support Center staffed by a 1.0 FTE (Title I funds) and a 6 hour a day IA.  This will replace sections of math and literacy support.  Research -based Intervention materials will be purchased to support the sections.  Students will attend during their elective classes on 4-6 week sessions.  The center will be open on T/TH for one hour after school.
AVID will be expanded to include grades 8-11 for the 2015-16 school year.
After school tutorial classes will continue at BHS for math only.
Liberty’s RSP time will be increased to .8 to include an RTI intervention model.
