Benicia Unified School District

Air Quality Decision Making

  • BUSD uses Purple Air sensors along with AirNow.gov as its primary air measurement tools. We also use secondary air quality measurement tools to confirm measurements in partnership with the Benicia Fire Department.
  • The Superintendent and Director of Maintenance & Operations monitors the air quality throughout the day when there is a threat of poor air quality.  Every effort will be made as early as possible to determine if the use of the Air Quality Modified Lunch schedule or if school closure is necessary.
  • BUSD, and all school districts in Solano County, use the chart (linked below) to identify what action to take based on air quality.
