One School One Book is a PTA sponsored program that has been occurring at Matthew Turner Elememtary for the past 4 years.  This program’s design was to encourage reading by students and families and to promote a shared reading experience.

The goal of this project was to create stronger readers and a sence of community.  Every family and employee from Matthew Turner was offered a book, from TK, to custodians and SPAs, to  teachers, visiting music, PE and district coaches, all were given a book. They made a conscious effort to collaborate with the District in finding new ways to engage families and staff in the program and the out come was amazing. Each year One School One Book has grown in generating new ideas on how to include and captivate students, families, and staff in participating in reading a book together.  By adding technology, art and social media everyone can find a way to be included.
We have also been a school that has shared the program with the other BUSD elementary schools. Participating OSOB schools normally have students keep the books each year.
Turner was honored this year by “Read to Them”, the company which provides the program as “School of the Year” and were choosen from a list of 500 schools accross the United States that take part in their program.
Congratulations!
