Dear Benicia Community and Staff,

I am reaching out to you in response to the event of April 10th where three of our BUSD students were subjected to racial slurs by a Benicia resident in the Raley’s parking lot who also threatened them with an airsoft pistol.  The alleged perpetrator was quickly arrested by the Benicia P.D. Please know that the school’s counseling staff have reached out to the parents of the three students to provide any support or services they may need.

In light of this unfortunate and traumatizing event, it is important to emphasize and reiterate BUSD’s ongoing commitment to the vitally important work that centers on the importance of honoring and respecting all people and that any form of racism is not tolerated.  We are committed to our ongoing efforts that center on equity, opportunity, inclusivity and culturally responsive practices.  This is critically important work as it centers on the inherent dignity of our shared humanity.

Sincerely,

Charles F. Young, Ed.D
