The Regular Governing School Board meeting of Thursday, March 23, 2023 will begin at 6:00pm
in the BUSD Board Room at 350 East K Street. This is an in-person meeting, masks are recommended, but not required. Members of the public may address the Board at a regular meeting on any item within the Board’s jurisdiction. Speaker cards are available on the entrance table. Please note the item you wish to speak to and submit the card to the Board Secretary. The Board President will call all public comments not on the agenda (Gov. Code Section 54954.3) during the public comment item #10 and that item number should be noted on the speaker card. All other comments will be called during the specific items that align with your topic. Comments are limited to no more than three minutes per speaker or the board may limit the total time to 20 minutes per item with the timer displayed on the monitors. By law, no action may be taken on any item raised during the public comment periods and matters may be referred to staff for placement on a future agenda of the Governing Board.

This will be a robust meeting with many action items that will begin with a highlight from Benicia High School’s Friday Night Live (FNL) Club’s state recognition. The consent calendar includes approval of BUSD Transportation Plan and a resolution authorizing the Konica Minolta Business Solution U.S.A., Incl lease agreement. There will also be a Public Hearing for the consideration of action to set up the retention for the Robert Semple Elementary School Modernization projects. Action items include: a discussion and possible action to award the contract for the Joe Henderson Elementary School E Wing Restroom site work for installation of a new Accessory and restroom Modular building to the lowest bidder, as well as, to award the contract for the Robert Semple Elementary School MPR HVAC upgrades to the lowest bidder. In addition, Educational Services will have the consideration and approval of the curriculum adoptions for High School Human Growth, Development and Sexual Health and for Special Education – High School Human Growth, Development and Sexual Health. There is also a course outline for Intro to Law: Legal Systems and Career Opportunities for high school and another for Health and Wellness for high school as well. Human Resources will have both the consideration and approval of the initial Sunshine Proposals of both Benicia Teachers Association (BTA) and California School Employees Association Chapter 1-96(CSEA) and Benicia Unified School District’s 2023-24 school year negotiations. An Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between Benicia Unified School District (BUSD) and BTA for the consideration and Approval of the Juneteenth Holiday and Years of Services. Lastly, the following job descriptions: Lead Campus Supervisor, Mental Health and Student Services Coordinator for the 2023-24 school year, Community Liaison for the 2023-24 school year, and Assistant Director of Health Services.
