Summary for the Upcoming Regular Governing School Board Meeting of April 20, 2023

The Regular Governing School Board meeting of Thursday, April 20, 2023 will begin at 6:00pm 

in the BUSD Board Room at 350 East K Street.  This is an in-person meeting, masks are recommended, but not required.  Members of the public may address the Board at a regular meeting on any item within the Board’s jurisdiction. Speaker cards are available on the entrance table. Please note the item you wish to speak to and submit the card to the Board Secretary. The Board President will call all public comments not on the agenda (Gov. Code Section 54954.3) during the public comment item #10 and that item number should be noted on the speaker card. All other comments will be called during the specific items that align with your topic. Comments are limited to no more than three minutes per speaker or the board may limit the total time to 20 minutes per item with the timer displayed on the monitors. By law, no action may be taken on any item raised during the public comment periods and matters may be referred to staff for placement on a future agenda of the Governing Board.

This meeting will begin with three great highlights:  the first being a Student Success Trailblazer Resolution presented to BUSD, the second being Benicia Middle School, Technology and Robotics students and third and a fan favorite is the Willie B. Adkins Scholars Program. The consent calendar includes the Quarterly Williams Uniform Complaint report, a request to approve the award of the Transportation Services to the low bidder, FIRSTalt, Resolution No. 22-23-14 authorizing the Hewlett Packard Enterprises Lease Agreement Pursuant to Public Contract Code 20118 and the consideration and approval of appointment of Nicholas Zefeldt to the Citizens Bond Oversight Committee.  The presentations and communication/informational items include: a staff report on Roofs and Bathrooms, the BUSD School Facility General Obligation Bond, Measure S Program and Citizen’s Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC) Update, and a BUSD Equity Update. The action Items include: the Consideration and Approval of the Matthew Turner and Joe Henderson Roofing Upgrades, the adoption of curriculum for AP Statistics at Benicia High School and for Non-AP BHS, LHS and BMS Spanish courses from Vista Higher Learning. From Human Resources there is Resolution No. 22-23-15, Release of Certificated Probationary Employee, and a job for Speech-Language Pathologist Assistant.
