Summary for the Upcoming Regular Governing School Board Meeting of May 25, 2023

The Regular Governing School Board meeting of Thursday, May 25, 2023 will begin at 6:00pm in the BUSD Board Room at 350 East K Street.  This is an in-person meeting, masks are recommended, but not required.  Members of the public may address the Board at a regular meeting on any item within the Board’s jurisdiction. Speaker cards are available on the entrance table. Please note the item you wish to speak to and submit the card to the Board Secretary. The Board President will call all public comments not on the agenda (Gov. Code Section 54954.3) during the public comment item #10 and that item number should be noted on the speaker card. All other comments will be called during the specific items that align with your topic. Comments are limited to no more than three minutes per speaker or the board may limit the total time to 20 minutes per item with the timer displayed on the monitors. By law, no action may be taken on any item raised during the public comment periods and matters may be referred to staff for placement on a future agenda of the Governing Board.

This meeting’s highlight will be from Mary Farmar Elementary School. The consent calendar includes: the 2021/22 SARCs for Benicia Middle and High School to revise the dates for the most recent Facility Inspection Tool (FIT) report and a Resolution for the Declaration of Obsolete BHS Textbooks. There will be a Public Hearing of the Local Control and Accountability Plan as well as a Public Hearing on the 2023/24 Budget for the Benicia Unified School District (BUSD) that will be opened for public comments.  Our action items include: Information and Consideration of possible action on a School Improvement Bond for School Related Facilities for BUSD, consideration and approval of a Resolution on Designating Certain General Funds as Committed Fund Balance, adoption of curriculum for high school, 10th-Grade World Civilization, History Social Science-Non-AP course, an Arts, Music & Discretionary Block Grant, and lastly the Declaration of Need for Fully Qualified Educators.
