Summary of the Upcoming Regular Governing School Board Meeting of February 15, 2024

The Regular Governing School Board meeting of Thursday, February 15, 2024’s open session will begin at 6:00pm in the BUSD Board Room at 350 East K Street.  This is an in-person meeting, masks are optional.  Members of the public may address the Board at a regular meeting on any item within the Board’s jurisdiction. Speaker cards are available on the entrance table. Please note the item you wish to speak to and submit the card to the Board Secretary. The Board President will call all public comments not on the agenda (Gov. Code Section 54954.3) during the public comment item #10 and that item number should be noted on the speaker card. All other comments will be called during the specific items that align with your topic. Comments are limited to no more than three minutes per speaker or the board may limit the total time to 20 minutes per item with the timer displayed on the monitors. By law, no action may be taken on any item raised during the public comment periods and matters may be referred to staff for placement on a future agenda of the Governing Board.

The highlight for this evening’s meeting will be the Recognition of a Robert Semple Employee and the Matthew Turner Elementary (MTE) STEAM Week and Night. The consent calendar includes: Acceptance of Gifts to the District from the Rotary Club of Benicia Foundation, an overnight field trip request, approval of the reappointment of Stacy Holguin for a 2nd term on the Citizens Bond Oversight Committee and a resolution for Declaration of Obsolete Books from Benicia High School. The presentation to the Board will be the Projected Student Enrollment for the 2024/25 school year. The two action items are the Consideration and Approval of the Comprehensive Site and District Safety Plans and the Final Approval of the PARS Supplementary Retirement Plan for the Benicia Unified School District (BUSD) based on the plan meeting the BUSD’s fiscal and operational objectives.
