Dear Benicia Community,

We have just learned of threats across the nation about school shootings on December 17 being posted on an open-source social media platform called TikTok. TikTok is a widely used platform across the world. There is no specific information on these threats as of right now and none of these are targeted at the Benicia Unified School District. In an ongoing partnership, Benicia Unified School District and Benicia Police Department are monitoring social media platforms and will provide any additional information that arises. As always, we take any threat seriously which may result in serious consequences. As an added precaution, we will have additional police presence at our sites tomorrow.

We are asking for your help and support. Please take some time to talk to your children about appropriate use of social media and technology, the serious nature of these types of threats, and being mindful not to “like,” share or promote any information that may not be accurate. It is also a good idea to have your child review the content of their social media or other technology applications with you on a regular basis.

If you have any questions or additional information, please contact the Benicia Police Department at 707-745-3411 or the administrator at your child’s school. Thank you for your partnership.

Sincerely,
Mike Greene
Chief of Police, Benicia Police Department
