Dear BUSD Community,
The Solano County Registrar of Voters notified the Benicia Unified School District that no candidate (i.e., failure to elect) had applied to serve Area 5 (map linked) for the November 8, 2022, general election. In response, the Benicia Unified School District Governing Board held interviews to provisionally appoint a candidate to fill the seat at the November 3, 2022, Regular Governing Board meeting.
On November 3, 2022, the Benicia Unified School District Governing Board took action to appoint Ariana Martinez as the Area 5 Trustee. In accordance with Education Code 5092, members of the community have petitioned this Provisional Appointment.
The Registrar of Voters/County Superintendent of Schools has verified the signatures, and, based on the verification of the petition signatures, the County Superintendent of Schools terminated the appointment on December 12, 2022. The County Superintendent has called for a special election to be held on March 7, 2023.
Additional information regarding the special election will be provided as it becomes available.
