Summary of the Upcoming Regular Governing School Board Meeting of January 18, 2024

The Regular Governing School Board meeting of Thursday, January 18, 2024’s open session will begin at 5:00pm, rather than the regular 6:00pm time because of the BHS Open House, in the BUSD Board Room at 350 East K Street.  This is an in-person meeting, masks are optional.  Members of the public may address the Board at a regular meeting on any item within the Board’s jurisdiction. Speaker cards are available on the entrance table. Please note the item you wish to speak to and submit the card to the Board Secretary. The Board President will call all public comments not on the agenda (Gov. Code Section 54954.3) during the public comment item #10 and that item number should be noted on the speaker card. All other comments will be called during the specific items that align with your topic. Comments are limited to no more than three minutes per speaker or the board may limit the total time to 20 minutes per item with the timer displayed on the monitors. By law, no action may be taken on any item raised during the public comment periods and matters may be referred to staff for placement on a future agenda of the Governing Board.

This meeting will begin with a highlight from Joe Henderson Elementary’s Saari Squad. The Consent Calendar includes acceptance of Gifts to the District in the amount of $3,000.00 from Valero Benicia Refinery and $500.00 from Delgado Property Management to the Benicia High School Wrestling Team. There is also the annual resolution for CDU Signature Authorizations and the School Accountability Report Card (SARC) for each school site. Under the presentation items we will have the Governor’s January Budget Proposal for the 2024/25 fiscal year and a Data Update: California Dashboard and Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA). The Action Items include the consideration and approval of the Benicia Unified School District (BUSD) Independent Auditor’s Report & the Financial and Performance Audit, Updated Expanded Learning Opportunity Program (ELOP), Intent to Employ with Provisional Internship Permit, and the recommended California School Board Association (CSBA) Board Policy Updates for September 2023 and October 2023 Special Update Packet.
