The Regular Governing School Board meeting of Thursday, April 18, 2024’s open session will begin at 6:00pm in the BUSD Board Room at 350 East K Street. This is an in-person meeting, masks are optional. Members of the public may address the Board at a regular meeting on any item within the Board’s jurisdiction. Speaker cards are available on the entrance table. Please note the item you wish to speak to and submit the card to the Board Secretary. The Board President will call all public comments not on the agenda (Gov. Code Section 54954.3) during the public comment item #10 and that item number should be noted on the speaker card. All other comments will be called during the specific items that align with your topic. Comments are limited to no more than three minutes per speaker or the board may limit the total time to 20 minutes per item with the timer displayed on the monitors. By law, no action may be taken on any item raised during the public comment periods and matters may be referred to staff for placement on a future agenda of the Governing Board.

This robust meeting will begin with a highlight from the director of our Food & Nutrition Services department. Under the Consent Calendar there are several acceptance of gifts, an early overnight field trip request, the quarterly Williams Uniform Complaints report, a resolution for declaration of Obsolete Instructional Materials, and the 2024-25 CIF Application for New Multi-School Membership between Benicia High School and Vision in Education. The presentation item will be on District Systems and Protocols. The action items include: the consideration and approval of the Reorganization of Salary Schedule for Contracted Positions, Assistant Superintendent, Educational Services Contract Amendment, consideration and approval of the appointment of Assistant Superintendent, Human Resources, and of the Chief Business Official. In addition, there are two resolutions for consideration and adoption approval. The first, is Authorizing the Issuance and Sale of General Obligation Bonds, Election 2024, Series A, in an Aggregate Principal Amount not to exceed $45,000,000 and approving related documents and actions. The second, Authorizing the Issuance and Sale of 2024 General Obligation Refunding Bonds in an Aggregate Principal Amount not to exceed $7, 500, 000 to refund outstanding General Obligation Bonds and approving related documents and actions. Also included, are the consideration and approval of the adoption of curriculum for elementary, K-2nd grade, History Social Science and English Language Arts for 4th & 5th grades. Lastly, are the approval of adoption of the California School Board Association (CSBA) Board Policy Updates from the December 2023 update packet that was introduced at the March 14, 2023 regular board meeting, a resolution for the 2024-25 Constitutional Advance for the Benicia Unified School District (BUSD), the Initial Sunshine of the California School Employees Association (CSEA) Bargaining Agreement by CSEA Chapter No. 1096 and BUSD for the 2024-25 School Year Negotiations and a resolution for the Final Classified Layoff due to a Lack of Work and/or Fund for the 2024-2025 school year.
