Summary of the Upcoming Regular Governing School Board Meeting of May 30, 2024

The Regular Governing School Board meeting of Thursday, May 30, 2024’s open session will begin at 6:00pm in the BUSD Board Room at 350 East K Street.  Members of the public may address the Board at a regular meeting on any item within the Board’s jurisdiction. Speaker cards are available on the entrance table. Please note the item you wish to speak to and submit the card to the Board Secretary. The Board President will call all public comments not on the agenda (Gov. Code Section 54954.3) during the public comment item #10 and that item number should be noted on the speaker card. All other comments will be called during the specific items that align with your topic. Comments are limited to no more than three minutes per speaker or the board may limit the total time to 20 minutes per item with the timer displayed on the monitors. By law, no action may be taken on any item raised during the public comment periods and matters may be referred to staff for placement on a future agenda of the Governing Board.

This meeting will begin with the highlights which include the: Fiestas Primavera Essay Winners: Spencer Ball and Marcos Jackson of Benicia High School, a Health Services Update, and Mary Farmar Elementary School. The Consent Calendar includes several acceptance of gifts to the District, Resolutions for the Declaration of Obsolete Property, and Dannis Woliver Kelley Professional Services Agreement . The presentations and communication/information items include: an update on the BUSD School Facility General Obligation Bond, Measure S Citizens’ Bond Oversight Committee (CBOC), and Public Hearings for the Local Control and Accountability Plan (LCAP) and the 2024/24 Budget for the Benicia Unified School District (BUSD). Action items included: the Consideration and Approval of a Resolution for Specifications of the Election Order for a Consolidated Board Member Election, Contracts for a Districtwide Security Upgrades, Proposition 28 Annual Expenditures Report, adoption of curriculum for AP Government at Benicia High School, adoption of curriculum for Math 6-8th grade (Non-Integrated 1) at Benicia Middle School, adoption of Amplify ELA curriculum for Benicia Middle School, Integrated Mathematics I with Computing & Robotics (C-STEM) Course at Liberty High School, Reclassification (Reclass)/Upgrade of the Food Services Employees along with new job descriptions, and the Declaration of Need (CL500) for 2024-2025 for Fully Qualified Educators.
