Based on the fluctuating Air Quality Index due to recent wildfires, BUSD has created an “action plan” that includes possible restrictions to school activities to protect the health of staff and students. Click the chart below for details.
BUSD uses AirNow.gov as its primary measurement tool. We also use two secondary air quality measurement tools to confirm AirNow.gov measurements which include District owned and maintained PurpleAir devices located at all schools and the District office and air quality measurements from the Benicia Fire Department.
Air Quality Decision Making

- The Superintendent and Director of Maintenance & Operations monitors the air quality throughout the day when there is a threat of poor air quality. Every effort will be made as early as possible to determine if the use of the Air Quality Modified Lunch schedule or if school closure is necessary.
- BUSD, and all school districts in Solano County, use the chart (linked below) to identify what action to take based on air quality.
