Benicia Unified School District

Ca Ed Code requires all schools to provide vision and hearing screenings to students in specific grades or when an initial assessment for special education is being completed. Schools may also provide scoliosis screenings. Parents who do not want their student to have vision or hearing screenings must provide written documentation each year requesting to opt out.

Hearing and Vision screenings: K, 2, 5, 8,10th grades, as well as new students to the district. TK vision only. Scoliosis screening: 7th grade females, 8th grade male. Students with IEP or being evaluated for IEP or SST may be referred by school staff for screening.

*If you receive a referral for a vision exam from school screening but are unable to make an appointment due to being uninsured or underinsured please contact Health Services. Students referred for a hearing examination through the audiology department at Solano County Office of Education are free of charge.
